The ancient town of Yangmei prospered for
more than a thousand years by developing waterway transportation. It was
originally built in the Song dynasty; it developed during the Ming dynasty and
was at its most prosperous time in the Qing dynasty.
Yangmei covers an area of 6.5 square
kilometers, studded with well-preserved ancient streets, lanes, temples,
houses, ports and trees, which can be dated back through the dynasties.
